Bristol City boss Derek McInnes hopes to bring in a defender on loan in time for Saturday's trip to promotion-chasing Hull City.
The Robins have depleted defensive resources, with James Wilson banned following his red card in the 3-0 home defeat to Leeds at the weekend, while Louis Carey and Lewin Nyantanga currently nurse calf and ankle injuries respectively.
McInnes has already identified a target he wishes to bring in and hopes the club's efforts will reach fruition.
He told
Bristol City Player: "I was looking to bring in a defender anyway but it's certainly something that becomes more apparent now.
"We've targeted someone we'd like to bring in and all being well we'll have that someone in time for the Hull game.
"However, I stress, there's still work to be done before we can get it signed and sealed."
Suspended
He added: "Louis was suspended on Saturday but he would have missed the game anyway because he had picked up a calf problem.
"Lewin was down to play but felt his ankle in training on Friday, and it's a problem he has been carrying for a little while."
One positive from the defeat to Leeds was Liam Fontaine's return for his first appearance since mid-December following a knee problem.
The 26-year-old wore the skipper's armband on Saturday and McInnes was delighted to have him back.
He added: "Liam was brought back a bit sooner than anticipated because of all the injury problems and suspension to Louis Carey.
"He came through it with flying colours, he cruised the game and that's a real positive."
