Dean Holden may not have been offered the Oldham job by Simon Corney, but the Latics chairman still expects him to be a boss one day.
The League One club last week revealed that rookie Darren Kelly would be succeeding Lee Johnson at the helm after Holden had been placed in temporary charge back in February. As caretaker, Holden won three of his 15 games to guide the injury-hit club to a mid-table finish before handing over to Kelly, who he will now assist. Although he was ultimately overlooked for the post, Holden has now been promoted from first-team coach to assistant manager and Corney anticipates he will take up an even more senior position at a club one day. "Lee left us in a great position where we could really take our time," Corney told Press Association Sport. "We had every confidence in Dean that he would keep us up and he did that comfortably. That's the reason why he's still here. "He also brings a lot to the table and will be a manager himself one day, I've no doubt. The two of them (Kelly and Holden) together will make a good team."
