Swansea's new midfielder Leroy Fer could make his debut against Crystal Palace on Saturday, head coach Francesco Guidolin has said.
The Dutch midfielder joined the Swans on loan from QPR for the rest of the season on Deadline Day but did not feature in the match-day squad for the draw against West Brom on Tuesday.
Guidolin says it was the club who decided to bring in Fer because they needed another midfielder after selling Jonjo Shelvey to Newcastle, but the Italian insists he does know him from the player's time at Norwich.
"I don't know yet if Fer will play. He has just arrived. He is a new player for me. I know him because I saw him play when he was at Norwich," Guidolin said.
"We needed another midfielder and the club decided to take him. He can play right or left, or No 10. I think he is a quality player and I need some days to get to know him better. But it is possible he can play a part of the game.
"We need players with ambition and motivation. I think I need to speak with him because we need players with this characteristics. I will get that out of him."
Swansea host Palace, who were beaten at home by Bournemouth in midweek, on Saturday afternoon and Guidolin is preparing his defenders to handle another player he knows; Emmanuel Adebayor.
Guidolin coached Adebayor, who signed for Palace on a free transfer last month, during their time together at Monaco and he insists the striker is still a threat despite a lack of playing time over the last 12 months.
"The game will be difficult for us. Crystal Palace are a good team - I like Alan Pardew and what he has done," Guidolin said.
"I know Adebayor well. When I was at Monaco, we worked together for the first part of the season, and then he moved to Arsenal. He is a good player and a good striker.
"I don't know his condition but he is a player with many qualities. He is strong in the air but his technique his good. He plays with the team and is good one versus one. He is a modern striker."
