The Swans went into the game rooted to the bottom of Division Three, but Friday`s home win lifted them a whopping six places to 18th.
Oxford took the lead when Scott McNiven escaped down the wing and crossed for Andrew Scott to convert on 25 minutes.
The U`s looked on course for a return to the promotion places but were brought back down to earth when Marc Richards hauled Swansea level before the break.
Lenny Johnrose (pictured) headed Swansea in front ten minutes into the second-half.
The home side were full of confidence and a surging run by Bradley Maylett produced a penalty when he was brought down in the box. Richards held his nerve to fire Swansea into a 3-1 lead.
Scott ensured a tense final ten minutes when he produced a fine turn and shot to give Oxford hope, but Swansea held firm to claim a vital three points.
An excellent night for Swansea was tarnished slightly by an injury to Leon Britton, who appeared to suffer a nasty knock to the face, and when the game was delayed after an assistant referee was hit by an object thrown from the crowd.
