Tate extends Swans deal

Swansea defender Alan Tate has signed a two-year contract extension.

Swansea defender Alan Tate has signed a two-year extension to his contract at The Liberty Stadium.

The 23-year-old would have been out of contract at the end of the season but his new deal will keep him at the club until the summer of 2008.

Tate, who joined The Swans on a free transfer in February 2004, began his career as a centre back but has been playing at right back for Kenny Jackett's side this season.

"I'm really enjoying my football at the moment," he told the club's official website.

"The gaffer has been encouraging me to go forward and I think me and Leon (Britton) have been doing okay down the right.

"But I know I'm still learning the position. I know I'm going to get good games and bad games, but you can't be afraid to make mistakes.

"I wanted nothing more than to stay here as long as I can. The club is on the way up and I want to play a full part in it."
