Swansea City defeated second-placed Brentford 2-1 at The Liberty Stadium.
Swansea City moved to within a point of second-placed Brentford with a late 2-1 victory at The Liberty Stadium.
Kenny Jackett's side needed maximum points against The Bees to boost their automatic promotion hopes.
Adebayo Akinfenwa gave the South Wales club the lead on 20 minutes before Martin Allen's side pulled level on the half-hour mark through Andrew Frampton.
The Swans claimed a crucial win just four minutes from time, as Andy Robinson (pictured) curled a free kick past Bees goalkeeper Stuart Nelson for the 2-1 success.
The result keeps the race for automatic promotion wide-open, with five points separating five clubs in the top six.
In the other League One match on Friday, Walsall moved out of the relegation places with their first league win of 2006 after a 2-1 success at Tranmere Rovers.
Grant Smith (41) gave The Saddlers a half-time lead before Chris Greenacre (64) equalised for Brian Little's side at Prenton Park.
Walsall restored their lead for good eight minutes later, with Smith scoring his second goal for the Black Country outfit.
The result takes Walsall a point clear of the bottom four in the League One table.
