Dutch striker struggling for fitness

Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray admits he is trying to nurse leading striker Marvin Emnes through to the summer. The Dutchman, who has 17 goals to his name this season, has been carrying a knee injury for a number of weeks. Mowbray admits that he is barely able to train due to the injury, although he hopes rest in the summer will mean surgery is not required. "He does have an underlying problem that needs resolving in the summer," said Mowbray. "I'm not sure Marvin needs to go under the knife. What I do know is Marvin needs a rest to allow the problem to calm down and settle down. "It's inflaming every time he plays and he doesn't do much training. It's going to be difficult to give him that rest during this period of games but we'll try."
