Swansea were a match for the Premier League champions for much of Saturday's game at the Etihad Stadium and were only sunk by Carlos Tevez's second-half strike.
The Swans sit 11th in the table and, with Michael Laudrup having replaced Brendan Rodgers as manager in the summer, loan signing De Guzman is happy with how things are going.
"We showed everyone that we can play football, it wasn't just a good couple of weeks at the beginning of the season," said De Guzman in the South Wales Evening Post.
"If we continue like this, I think we can do very well in the league. If we can bring the same attitude to other matches and through the whole season, we'll go very far as a team.
"This is a disappointing result for us. I thought we could have at least got a point, but that's football.
"We're developing into a unit. It takes a bit of time with a new manager and this is only our second year in the Premier League.
"There's a lot of pressure in the second year. In the first year no-one really looked at Swansea but they set a high standard finishing 11th and doing a very good job. Now teams are watching out for us.
"There's a good feeling in the squad at the moment. In training everyone pushes each other and it's difficult for the manager to pick his best 11."
