Garry Monk was full of praise for league leaders Swansea after their latest win, but admits he’s not getting carried away.
The Swans beat West Brom 3-0 at the Liberty Stadium to go top of the early Premier League table with three wins out of three following victories over Manchester United and Burnley, while Monk's side have also beaten Rotherham in the League Cup.
It is the club’s best start since 1923 but Monk is keeping his feet on the ground ahead of a long season to come.
Come May is where the real business is done. Look, I said it in my programme notes - we have to always remind ourselves, a club like us in this league and where we’ve come from, is safety is our priority.
Monk told Sky Sports: “A very good day – 3-0, a clean sheet, a very good performance with the ball and without the ball.
“We thoroughly deserved it as well, I thought we were dominant from start to finish.
“But all credit to the boys, they worked very hard out there against a tough West Brom side that were on a good run themselves, so a very good day.”
Swansea fans were singing ‘we’re going to win the league’ during the game after seeing another win.
Monk remains realistic, saying: “Come May is where the real business is done. Look, I said it in my programme notes - we have to always remind ourselves, a club like us in this league and where we’ve come from, safety is our priority.
“I know expectations always go high with wins but we’re realistic enough to know that being safe as soon as possible is obviously the target.”
