Former Premier League ace happy at the Keepmoat

Pascal Chimbonda insists he is enjoying life at the bottom of the Championship with Doncaster Rovers. The France international was a free agent after leaving Queens Park Rangers in the summer. The 32-year-old was offered short-term deal by Rovers and he accepted the chance to join a Willie McKay-led revolution at the Keepmoat Stadium. Agent McKay has been given 'carte blanche' over transfers at the Championship club which has seen the likes of Chimbonda and El-Hadji Diouf arrive. Chimbonda is hoping his time at Rovers will serve as a reminder to Premier League clubs that he is still capable of playing at the top level. "The reason I am here is because only this team gave me my chance to play football again. This is a chance I jumped at," he told The People. "The Championship is really hard. There are so many teams who have come down from the Premier League who find it hard to get up again. It is a tough league. "I hope to do well until January and we will see what happens. "It is the dream of every player to play at the highest level, so if I play well and get the chance to go back in the Premier League then I will be very happy. "I didn't feel I would not play again, but hour after hour went by and then the season started, the Premier League teams picked their squads, and I was not in the business anymore. "The way that football is now, I want to make sure I keep playing, do well for the team and if the team to do well that might help me step up." Chimbonda looks set to be joined at Doncaster by another big-name arrival with Habib Beye set to join next week from Aston Villa.
