The 23-year-old defender is just the latest member of Rovers' squad to pen a deal after he agreed a new two-year term.
"Ian had a difficult time when I first arrived, he was injured at first and his first game was at Barnsley, where really we had to throw him into the side and I guess on reflection it didn't go as well as he would have liked," manager Brian Little (pictured) told the club's official website.
"But in fairness to Ian he worked really hard on his personal fitness and then when he got into the side for the second time he started to show me what type of a player he could be and I'm really pleased that he's agreed to stay on.
"He's worked really hard this season and towards the end of the season he was without doubt one of our outstanding players.
"He's very strong and very very commanding in lots of situations and the contract is a reward for the work he's put in."
