Richard Caborn says he will aid Tranmere to get Calvin Zola back playingTranmere look set to receive the backing of sports minister Richard Caborn in their battle to get striker Calvin Zola Makongo back on the field of play.
Zola has been a huge hit at the Wirral club, but has cut a frustrated figure on the sidelines since November due to a wrangle over a visa.
The striker has been informed by the home office that if he wants to live and work in the country, he must return to his native Democratic Republic of Congo to secure a visa.
Zola fears his life would be in danger if he returned, having fled the country with his mother when he was a youngster, and Rovers are keen for Caborn to step in and resolve the issue.
Caborn has been briefed on the subject by Wirral South MP Ben Chapman and is looking to aid the club and player in their battle with the authorities.
"I've promised I will take this problem up with the appropriate department as soon as possible," said Caborn. "But that will not be until after the election.
"I will take it on in my capacity as sports minister, as long as we are re-elected."
