Little welcomes 'new signing'

Brian Little says Calvin Zola Makongo's return will be like having a new signing.

Tranmere boss Brian Little believes Calvin Zola Makongo's return will be like having a new signing at the club.

The popular striker has been a frustrated viewer on the sidelines since November as he has been denied the chance to play due to work permit problems.

The 20-year-old had to return to the Congo to secure his visa, despite fearing for his life after fleeing from the country when younger, and has returned following the ordeal.

Zola will now be available for Rovers as they attempt to secure promotion from League One next season, and Little was delighted to welcome the forward back to Prenton Park.

"It has been a really testing time for Calvin and also for ourselves and we were determined to see this day," Little told the club's official website.

"I cant wait to see him and shake his hand.

"Before he went back to the Congo I had a little chat with him and told him to be strong and brave, because he was very scared, so I'm delighted it has worked out for him.

"In many ways it will be like a new signing for us, he has worked very hard in training during the last few months and even though he has not been playing games he has improved.

"Hopefully he will prove to be a real asset for us."
