Crewe Alexandra have signed Shrewsbury Town striker Luke Rodgers.Crewe Alexandra have signed striker Luke Rodgers from League Two club Shrewsbury Town.
The 23-year-old becomes Dario Gradi's fifth signing of the close season after impressing the Gresty Road boss while training this summer with The Railwaymen.
Rodgers has signed a two-year deal with the Championship outfit after turning down a new deal with The Shrews and both clubs have agreed a nominal fee for the player.
Shrewsbury were entitled to compensation for Rodgers, who is under 24 years of age, despite being out of contract at Gay Meadow.
"Luke has been busting a gut to be involved ever since he arrived at the club on trial," Gradi told the club's official website.
"He is a confident lad and has impressed me with his attitude in training and he is a player we have watched on countless occasions over the last few years."
Rodgers follows Slovakian hit-man Pavol Suhaj in signing this week with Crewe.
One striker that looks set to move on from the club is Mark Rivers, who has slipped down the pecking order after the new summer arrivals in the attacking department.
The former Norwich City player may be set for a move to League One club Tranmere Rovers, according to Gradi.
"We obviously have Juan (Ugarte) and Luke (Rodgers) and if Michael Boulding signs, then he could go above him as well," added Gradi.
"Rivo told me that he thought he might have the opportunity to go to Tranmere Rovers, and I said to him that I wouldn't stand in the way if he wanted to go.
"To be honest I am happy either way. I am happy for him to stay here with us, but also if he wants to leave."
