Tranmere Rovers have picked up Preston North End goalkeeper Gavin Ward on a Bosman free transfer.
The 35-year-old shot-stopper has signed a one-year deal at Prenton Park after spending most of his career in the top two flights of English football.
He spent two seasons with The Lilywhites after moving from Coventry City in the summer of 2004 and has also played at Barnsley, Bradford City, Bolton Wanderers, Leicester City, Stoke City and Walsall.
His professional debut came for Cardiff City in 1989, and Rovers boss Ronnie Moore is hoping the player can bring his vast experience into the North West club.
"He has played in promotion winning sides and is very commanding in his area," Moore told the club's website.
Ward will compete against long-serving Dutch keeper John Achterberg as he looks to wrestle the number one jersey for the club's push for League One promotion in the coming season.
