Martin Devaney was pleased to return to the Tranmere side on Saturday despite their FA Cup defeat to Cheltenham.
The 31-year-old midfielder, a summer signing from Barnsley, appeared as a second-half substitute, but could not stop Les Parry's side slipping to a 1-0 first-round defeat against the League Two side. "It would have been good to come back and win, but, from a personal point of view, it's good to come on and play," Devaney told BBC Radio Merseyside. "It's great to put the shirt back on and be playing again. "I had a little bit of a breakdown three or four weeks ago that set me back a few weeks. All that's behind me now and I've just got to be positive." Although Devaney admitted to finding his period on the sidelines frustrating, he has been boosted by Rovers' impressive recent form that sees them sitting eighth in League One. "It's the worst thing ever being a footballer being injured, it's mentally torture," he added. "But sitting up there and watching the lads they've done really well makes you want to work harder on the training ground so that you are sharp and fit when you come back."
