Goodison's vintage year is over

Tranmere boss Ronnie Moore has revealed 41-year-old Ian Goodison is unlikely to feature again in 2013 due to injury.

During a week which garnered so much attention for another of football's evergreen men, Ryan Giggs, Jamaican defender Goodison, who is 373 days the Manchester United man's senior, battled through a groin injury to start both of Rovers' games. However, during the 2-1 win over Colchester on Saturday, Goodison sustained a thigh injury just 12 minutes in which is likely to keep him out until well into January. There is better news elsewhere, though, for a trio of other injury concerns in Moore's squad. Fellow defender Jon Otsemobor's debut lasted only five minutes after he went head-first over an advertising hoarding and damaged his back, while both Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro and James Wallace required stitches to head wounds. "Jon Otsemobor is stiff and has bruised his back, but I think he'll be ok for the weekend," said Moore. "It's just a matter of resting it, there's not a great deal you can do. "Jean-Louis had eight stitches in his head wound, but he's fine, the doctor did a good job, it's clean and tidy, and Wallace had four stitches just under his eye when he came off. It was a battle, that's for sure! "Goody is going to be out for four to six weeks. He has been carrying a groin injury on his left side, but he tweaked his thigh."
