The 28-year-old has recently been back in his native Belgium attempting to earn himself a contract.
Millwall are keen to keep the player, but have told him they are unable to offer him an extended contract due to financial restrictions at the South London club.
Another factor in Kinet's decision to seek pastures new is the emergence of young prospect Peter Sweeney at the New Den, who has kept the Belgian out of the first-team in recent times.
Millwall boss Mark McGhee admitted he was still hoping that Kinet would remain with the First Division outfit.
"He is still a Millwall player, and I am delighted with that," said the former Leicester manager.
"We are not in the position to offer him an extended contract at the moment - we will not be able to talk to him until the season ends.
"But we have told him that if someone is in a position to offer him a longer deal, say two or three years, we would not stand in his way."
