Centre-back heads back to Britannia Stadium

Stoke City have recalled Andrew Davies back from his spell at Championship strugglers Middlesbrough. The 26-year-old defender had been training with the club where he began his career and was linked with a permanent switch back to the Riverside. But the much-travelled centre-half has returned to the Britannia Stadium after playing just one reverse match for Boro. Davies could be included in Tony Pulis' squad to face Wolves at Molineux on Sunday.

Injuries

Meanwhile, Barry Robson has become the latest Middlesbrough player set for spell on the sidelines. The midfielder is out with a badly cut ankle picked up during Saturday's 1-1 draw with Preston North End. The Scotland international required stitches on the injury and will be assessed in a week to see how severe the problem is. Goalkeeper Danny Coyne will also be missing for some weeks with a herniated disc which is causing acute back pain. Boro boss Tony Mowbray is hopeful that right-back Justin Hoyte's hamstring injury will not be as bad as was feared.
Frustrating
"It's frustrating that Justin picked up the injury," he told the club's official website. "Let's hope it's four weeks instead of six to eight." Midfielder Willo Flood is close to a return after a lengthy absence with a dislocated knee. "Willo is back on the training field, although he's not yet joining in with the other players," Mowbray added. "He should be back in full training within two weeks." Australian midfielder Rhys Williams is also nearing a return to training as he recovers from a pelvic problem, but Scotland star Kevin Thomson is not expected to return for some time after a hairline fracture was diagnosed close to the site of his previous fibula injury. Fellow Scotland star Stephen McManus will not be back until March at the earliest after suffering an ankle ligament problem. England youth international forward Luke Williams suffered ankle ligament damage during an FA Youth Cup tie at Doncaster Rovers on 12th January. Follow me on Twitter @ballell
