Keeper Ross Turnbull will be out of action for a month longer than expected.
Crewe Alexandra's season has gone from bad to worse with the news that on-loan goalkeeper Ross Turnbull will be out for twice as long as was initially expected.It seemed as though Turnbull might be out for a month after a nasty collision with Watford's Trevor Benjamin left him with an injured knee, but further tests have indicated that this period could be extended to two months.
The bad news is probably the last thing Crewe boss Dario Gradi wanted to hear, after a 4-0 hammering at home by Wolves on Tuesday left the Gresty Road outfit perilously close to the bottom of The Championship.
"Ross's injury looks to be worse than first feared and that is a blow because we thought it wasn't too serious," Gradi told the club's official website.
Turnbull, 20, had made an encouraging start to his Crewe career. After leaving Middlesbrough on a loan deal in the summer, he got his chance after first choice keeper Ben Williams sustained a calf injury the night Crewe crashed out of the Carling Cup to lowly Lincoln City.
Gradi was full of praise, though, for the youngster's attitude in the face of adversity.
"He came to the game on Tuesday evening in a knee brace and has said that it could now be eight weeks. He is receiving treatment up in Middlesbrough, but he drove down to watch us play Wolves and that was very impressive."
