Patrick Noubissie is training with Swindon Town after failing to earn a long-term contract at Crewe Alexandra.
The French full-back signed a two-month deal with Crewe in November, but did not make a first-team appearance for Dario Gradi's side.
Gradi has opted against extending Noubissie's stay and the League One club have confirmed he is now on trial at Swindon.
Meanwhile, Gradi is hoping that striker Nicky Maynard (pictured) may only be sidelined for a fortnight with a hamstring injury.
Maynard picked up the problem in scoring against Carlisle United at the weekend and there were fears he could be out for six weeks.
But Gradi told the club's official website: "I've spoken to our physio and he says at the moment it could be anything between two or four weeks.
"Nicky is usually a quick healer, so we'll have to wait and see, but I would be absolutely delighted if it is only the two weeks."
Swindon, meanwhile, have extended the contract of goalkeeper Phil Smith until June 2009.
The former Margate and Crawley Town custodian joined The Robins in the summer and has impressed the Wiltshire club with his performances in the absence of the injured Peter Brezovan.
