Crewe defender John Brayford has denied his indifferent form so far this season is down to recent question marks over his future.
The 21-year-old only signed for the Railwaymen last year from Burton but was continually linked with a move to rejoin former manager Nigel Clough at Derby over the summer.
The full-back is the first to admit that despite being an ever present this campaign his performances have not been up to scratch.
However, with the transfer window now shut, Brayford insists he can fully concentrate on his football although he insists the speculation never affected his game.
"I don't think it did affect me but now the transfer window has shut all the speculation has stopped," he told the Crewe Chronicle.
"It dragged on for God knows how long and people seem to know more than me sometimes.
"It isn't nice when that happens but at the end of the day I am a professional and it is my job to get things done the right way."
Brayford was also keen to point out that he has never hankered for a move away from Gresty Road and confirmed that he was happy to stay at the club.
"I've always been happy at Crewe and I've never asked to leave," he added.
"They brought me to the Football League and I am more than happy to be here."
