Taylor sets survival target

Gillingham manager Peter Taylor believes a handful of wins will guarantee survival in League One.

Heading into the final 12 matches of the season, the Gills are 16th in the table and three points above the relegation zone. The 2-1 defeat at Bristol City on Saturday was their third loss in succession but Taylor insists his players will be working extremely hard to get points on the board this weekend when Crawley visit Priestfield. "I wanted to start well and make the Bristol City players nervous but that wasn't the case, we allowed them to relax and play a bit of football which is why they had the better of the first half," Taylor told the club's official website. "Then we get the goal and you never know, but unfortunately for us we conceded again. "We will now be preparing very hard for Crawley. We know we have some tough games, thankfully we have a dozen matches to go with six at home and six away so we know where we stand and we need four or five wins to give ourselves a chance. "We are halfway in the table and we are inconsistent but I'm sure a lot of managers at this level say that. "It's not over, simple as that. I know that and have done for a while but I still think we are capable of doing better than we did on Saturday so we need to show that."
