Port Vale boss Micky Adams is considering offering a contract to former Crewe Alexandra goalkeeper Stuart Tomlinson.
Adams is keen to sign a keeper before the start of the season with regular No.1 Joe Anyon unlikely to have recovered from a broken leg in time for the visit of Rochdale on 8th August.
Tomlinson has been handed a chance by Vale after failing to earn a new contract at Crewe at the end of last season.
He played in Saturday's 3-0 friendly win over Newcastle Town and Adams will give Tomlinson another opportunity to earn a deal at Vale Park.
"Everybody is aware that Joe Anyon is still out injured," Adams told The Sentinel. "I would think it is a major doubt now whether he is going to be fit for the start of the season.
"I am covering all the bases, so I had a look at Stuart Tomlinson. He didn't have a shot to save and kicked it okay, but I can't really judge him on that.
"Hopefully he will be in training this week and we can monitor the situation."
Adams, who also has former Walsall full-back Kris Taylor on trial, confirmed he will not be following up his interest in trialist Zoumana Bakayoko.
He added: "Bakayoko's agent wanted an instant decision and I couldn't give him that, so he has moved on elsewhere.
"We could all see the qualities that boy had, so it is a shame we have missed out on him."
