Michael Brown refused to rule out a late charge for the play-offs by a resurgent Leeds under new boss Neil Warnock.
The Yorkshire side looked to have blown their chances of making the top six following a string of poor results that cost previous boss Simon Grayson his job.
And with just one defeat in the four games under Warnock, Brown believes the club are now looking more like a side ready to fight for promotion.
But with games running out fast Brown believes they will have to win all of their remaining games - starting with West Ham on Saturday.
"The play-offs are a big, big ask," said Brown in the
Yorkshire Evening Post. "But we'll try and keep going and try and win as many games as we can, starting with West Ham, which is a big game.

"I'd rather have a game in hand and play in the week, that's for sure. But we've a full week to recover and we'll look forward to a big game.
"We're starting to look solid. I know how Neil works and I know he won't accept sloppy goals - and you will soon know about it if you do concede them.
"But we've just got to carry on and keep going; the problem is we've got to fight the table with the games running down. And that's the difficulty since the gaffer has come in.
"But we'll just keep enjoying it and keep trying to win as many games as we can between now and the end of the season."
Brown welcomed the appointment of Warnock as boss as he had played under him before when the pair enjoyed arguably their best times in their careers so far.
The pair were part of a successful Sheffield United side that was promoted to the Premier League in 2006 and, although bringing top-flight football might be a bridge too far for the pair of them this season, Brown admits he is loving every minute of trying.
"I don't know about playing my best football at 35," said Brown. "But I'm enjoying it. I just want to play football and do my best for the team and play as many times as I can.
"It's been fantastic (under Warnock) and it's just a bit of normality really. It's just run the right way under him and you know your positions and know what he expects.
"Everyone can have a smile on their faces and have a bit of fun, but everybody works hard as well. He just knows the job."
