Timing crucial in Morsy chase

Sam Morsy's agent has warned Chesterfield that time could be of the essence in their pursuit of the Port Vale midfielder.

Morsy will become a free agent at the end of the month after not accepting the offer of a new contract from the Valiants, who are entitled to compensation with the player under the age of 24. At the moment the Spireites are the only club to have expressed an interest in the former Wolves trainee and they have had an offer turned down by the League One newcomers. Morsy's agent Matt Kleinman believes it is only a matter of time before his client appears on the radars of other clubs and he has not ruled out the possibility of the 21-year-old staying at Vale Park. "Unfortunately no other clubs have shown an interest in Sam yet, which is quite surprising as I believe he is capable of playing in League One and making that step-up with Port Vale," Kleinman told Press Association Sport. "But it seems (Vale manager) Micky Adams has his own ideas and he is a very experienced and capable manager. "There is a chance for Chesterfield, or any club, to get a really good, young player in Sam and I am sure he will come to the attention of more clubs. "But Chesterfield are in talks with Port Vale at the moment. I understand they have had an offer turned down. I don't know how far away the two clubs are in terms of their valuations but hopefully they can work something out. "If they can't before Port Vale return for pre-season training then Sam will carry on at Port Vale until they accept an offer - an offer from any club. But then in that scenario, I think pre-season could be very important. Should the matter not be resolved by then, if Sam gets a chance and impresses then maybe Port Vale will get back around the table about a new deal. "After all, Sam never rejected Port Vale's offer of a new contract - he just never accepted it and the offer has since been rescinded. "However, the other side of that is Micky Adams doesn't see Sam as part of his plans at all and doesn't play him in pre-season, perhaps giving Chesterfield a better chance of doing a deal."
