Adams still proud of players

Micky Adams saw Port Vale concede a two-goal lead in a 4-2 loss at Notts County but said he was still proud of his players.

Vale stormed out of the blocks and were 2-0 up after County defender Curtis Thompson had headed into his own net and Gavin Tomlin struck.

Notts gave themselves hope after 27 minutes when Spencer deftly headed Campbell-Ryce's cross beyond Vale goalkeeper Sam Johnson.

Spencer then equalised after more good work from Campbell-Ryce and the winger went on to add two more goals - in the 48th and 85th minute - to seal a valuable win.

"I think the first half summed up our season really," said Adams.

"We got ourselves into a 2-0 lead, but then ended up being pegged back.

"But when we went 3-2 down, to be fair, they gave me a response and we had a very good 10-15 minute spell when we could have scored the equaliser.

"We created some very good opportunities and also hit the post, but their goalkeeper, you have to say, made some very good saves to keep them ahead especially from Tom Pope's header.

"But at least the players kept showing the belief and spirit is there at this football club.

"I just think the goals they scored could have been avoided had we shown a bit more endeavour in certain situations.

"But I'm proud of the players for what they've done this season."
