Northampton striker Marc Richards does not require an operation.Northampton Town have been boosted by the news that Marc Richards does not require an operation but he will be out of action for up to two months.
The striker underwent a scan on the knee injury sustained during Friday's training session on Tuesday that revealed only minor damage.
Richards has avoided an operation that would have meant a lengthy spell on the sidelines although he will still require six weeks of rest.
"Marc will be out of action for six to seven weeks, but the good news is he does not need an operation," said manager Colin Calderwood to the club's official website.
"Marc has been in a lot of pain since the incident, which really was frustrating as it was very innocuous. He just jumped for the ball and fell badly.
"It is obviously a blow to Marc and we will miss him, but his absence will give opportunities to other players and it is up to them to stake their claim for a regular place.
"In six weeks' time we hope Marc will be fit and available. In the meantime Marc will work hard on his rehabilitation and we hope to have him back in action as soon as possible."
