Gilligan earns Cobblers deal

Northampton's Colin Calderwood is delighted to have signed up Ryan Gilligan.

Northampton manager Colin Calderwood is delighted to have been able to reward young midfielder Ryan Gilligan with a first professional contract.

The former Watford trainee arrived at Sixfields in August and has now inked a deal until the end of the season.

"Ryan Gilligan has now signed a professional contract with us that runs until the end of the current season," confirmed Calderwood to The Cobblers' official website.

"With Ryan signing on as a professional that also frees up a YTS place which will give someone else an opportunity.

"I've watched him over the past few seasons at different levels and Ryan has come in and contributed greatly to the first team."

The 18-year-old has scored two goals for the League Two club in four starts with a further seven appearances as a substitute.
