Northampton Town boss Ian Sampson has urged striker Adebayo Akinfenwa to stay at Sixfields until the end of the season.
Akinfenwa's contract with the Cobblers expires next summer and the former Swansea City front man has been linked with a move away from the League Two club in January.
However, rather than look to collect a nominal fee for Akinfenwa in the New Year, Sampson feels the 27-year-old's goals will be vital to Northampton staying in the Football League.
"Bayo is obviously the most high-profile player we have," Sampson told the club's official website.
"He scores a goal every other game and he is not a player we want to leave the club. Given the predicament we are in we will need his goals in the second half of the season.
"Bayo needs to stay here. He is out of contract in the summer and then whatever happens we will deal with.
"Of course he could leave in the summer, but we will deal with that further down the line. We don't want him to leave in January as we need him.
"When I took over Bayo said he was fully committed to the club and his performances have shown that. His fitness levels are up and as they have increased his performances have improved."
