Cobblers win Johnson appeal

Northampton have been successful in their appeal against the red card shown to John Johnson during the Boxing Day defeat to Burton.

Defender Johnson was sent off after just 18 minutes for allegedly elbowing Albion captain John McGrath in a challenge. However, the Football Association have overturned the decision of referee Andy Madley and Johnson will be available for selection when Swindon visit Sixfields on New Year's Eve. "I'm delighted that the right decision has been made. I didn't think it was a red card at the time, but that's because as a manager and having played the game as well you tend to know when somebody has done somebody," said Town boss Aidy Boothroyd. "I went home straight after the game and watched the incident again countless times and I could see why the referee gave a red card because it happened so quick." Boothroyd added: "Every time I've appealed I've done it properly. Sometimes you have to put your faith in the authorities and everyone at the club is delighted that Jonno is now available for selection against Swindon on Saturday."
