The 23-year-old's current deal was due to expire at the season's end but the Terriers manager feels the player's long-term future is at The McAlpine Stadium.
His new deal will begin from the end of the current campaign and Jackson has been pleased with Schofield's efforts to regain his fitness from recent injury.
"Danny was injured for just about the whole of the pre-season and spent much of the early part of the season catching up on his fitness," Jackson told the club's official website.
"There is no doubt that Danny can play a key role in the future of this club for the next couple of years."
Schofield has made 96 League appearances for the Third Division club since joining in the summer of 1998.
He becomes Jackson's seventh young player to have secured an extended deal with Huddersfield this season.
