Quakers eye Sodje swoop

Darlington have taken Huddersfield Town's Akpo Sodje on trial.

Darlington have taken Huddersfield Town's Akpo Sodje on trial.

The promotion chasing Quakers are looking to bolster their striking options and manager David Hodgson has turned to Sodje.

The younger brother of Town's Efe - has bagged 14 goals in 16 reserve team games this season, following his summer move to The Galpharm Stadium from Erith and Belvedere.

Sodje, 25, has been limited to just a handful of substitute appearances and is way-down the pecking order, so Town have given him a chance to earn a move to The Williams Motors Stadium.

Hodgson spotted Sodje when he scored against Darlington's second string last month.

"He's got the sort of pace we are lacking, and also has a good eye for goal," said Hodgson.

"Other teams often bring on a player with his qualities late in games against us, and we don't have anybody of a similar type.

"Players like Sodje frighten the life out of the opposition, and that's what we must be looking to do in the remaining games if we are to make the play-offs."
