Malky Mackay was quick to praise his Cardiff side as skipper Mark Hudson's stoppage time goal sealed victory against a plucky Huddersfield Town.
Hudson thundered home when the ball fell to him in the penalty area to give Cardiff, playing in their new red strip for the first time in a competitive fixture, the three points on a night that had looked set to end in frustration.
The Scot was pleased with City's persistence as they got their season off to the perfect start.
He told
Sky Sports: "I think it shows courage to keep going and keep pressing right up until the last couple of minutes knowing that if they kept their shape and they kept having patience, kept driving forward, eventually a break might happen and it did."
Asked if he will look to bring in any more players over the next couple of weeks, Mackay replied: "Yes, we lost seven players through contracts ending and selling a couple, so we need to thicken the squad up a little.
"We've got a bench that's quite young and not a lot beyond that, so yeah, we need to bring in another couple of players."
Delighted
Meanwhile, man of the match David Marshall was pleased with his display as he produced a string of fine saves to keep Cardiff in the game until their late winner.
"We never played particularly well," he said. "I think Huddersfield came here, sat in and made life difficult for us, but (we are) just delighted to get the three points.
"We're just delighted to have scored a goal in the last minute, but we need to improve a lot going forward."
