Celtic have tabled a bid for Brighton's Adam Virgo.Celtic are thought to have tabled an offer for Brighton's Adam Virgo.
Bhoys boss Gordon Strachan is looking to bolster his squad ahead of this week's deadline for the second round of the UEFA Champions League.
Strachan has made a new defender his top priority having lost Jackie McNamara, Ulrik Laursen and Joos Valgaeren over the summer.
Virgo enjoyed a fine season with Brighton last season and the 23-year-old is a versatile performer as he is equally adept at centre forward as at centre back.
Strachan is believed to have tabled a £1.5 million bid for Virgo and he is thought to be locked in talks with the player.
Virgo is set to undergo a medical on Tuesday and he is excited at the prospect of moving to Parkhead.
"People might think that joining Celtic was an easy decision, but you have to think about your family and the people you are leaving," Virgo told Brighton's official website.
"But sometimes you just can't say no to an opportunity such as this.
"I've supported Brighton all my life and have had such good times here.
The fans have been great - I've always given 110 per cent for the team, but so have they - and so I'd like to wish the club every success for the future."
Meanwhile, Celtic are reported to have had a fresh bid for Hearts midfielder Paul Hartley rejected.
Hartley has been a long-term target for Celtic and they tried to sign him during the January transfer window.
The Bhoys are believed to have tabled a £300,000 offer for the Scottish international, but Hearts have snubbed the offer.
Hartley, who rejected a new deal at Tynecastle earlier this summer, is thought to be keen on a move to Celtic.
