Stewart Downing was left frustrated after Liverpool lost 1-0 to Stoke City on Saturday but the new arrival insists his team can take positives away from the game.
Jon Walters' 21st minute penalty was enough for victory after Jamie Carragher brought down the Stoke striker in the box.
And despite dominating the second half for long periods, the Reds could not find a way to unlock the Potters' defence.
The Merseyside club felt they should have had a penalty of their own when a Luis Suarez cross hit a lunging Matthew Upson on the arm, but the officials waved away Liverpool protests.
Downing told the club's official website: "I thought we played some decent football. We were unlucky and on another day we would have put our chances away but it wasn't to be.
"I'm not sure whether it was a penalty or not for their goal, but we should have had one ourselves.
"I didn't see the incident but the lads were saying it was a stonewall hand afterwards. It was very frustrating.
"I don't think there was much wrong with our performance but credit to Stoke they made it difficult for us.
"It was 'one of those days' and we couldn't hit the net, but hopefully we'll be able to do it at Tottenham next week.
"We were unlucky, but the manager said to us after the game to keep doing what we're doing."
