Barnsley boss still searching for a 'leader' this summer
Barnsley manager Keith Hill has ended his interest in signing Gordon Greer after seeing two bids for the Brighton & Hove Albion captain rejected.
Greer has been an influential figure for Brighton since joining from Swindon Town in 2010 and has just a further year to run on his contract.
Seagulls boss Gus Poyet insisted last month that the defender was not for sale after Barnsley's opening offer was turned down before Hill went back in with a fresh approach.
However, after again finding the Tykes' Championship rivals in no mood to part with Greer, Hill will now look elsewhere in his quest to sign a 'leader'.
"Gordon Greer is a player that I admire a lot," said Hill in The Argus.
"I wanted to bring him to Barnsley but we have made two bids that have both been rejected by Gus Poyet and Brighton so we won't bid again.
"He is a leader and a manager on the pitch and we don't have someone like that which was very obvious at points last season.
"We will now move on from Gordon and look for other players like that."
