The Cherries had only just brought Portsmouth's Chris Tardif in to deputise for Stewart, but a training ground accident now means that the Pompey keeper will make his debut.
Stewart hurt his right ankle and after consulting a specialist, he found out he had torn a ligament and will now undergo an operation on Monday.
Bournemouth will now look to bring in another keeper to compete with Tardif.
Meanwhile, manager Sean O'Driscoll has completed the signing of former Norwich City striker Danny Bloomfield - who has been on trial at the club for most of the summer.
