Feeney badly damaged ankle ligaments in The Cherries' Third Division defeat at Swansea last Saturday.
The 21-year-old was stretchered off just before half-time at Vetch Field and Cherries physio Jim Marshall has confirmed Feeney will be sidelined for at least eight weeks.
Though a scan confirmed Feeney had incurred severe ligament damage, it was not 100 percent conclusive.
He will visit a specialist on Thursday for a more decisive diagnosis but his absence will be a bitter blow for The Cherries who have made a disappointing start to life in Division Three.
Feeney has been an integral performer for The Cherries since arriving on the South Coast permanently last summer from Leeds.
