Young has been playing with a hernia complaint for the past three months but he is now unable to continue through the pain.
The 31-year-old will undergo surgery and could be absent from The Cherries' plans for as much as six weeks.
He will miss this weekend's FA Cup fourth round trip to Burnley and he acknowledged he has been struggling with the problem.
"I've been carrying it since the Peterborough game at the start of November and it's finally caught up with me now," Young told the Daily Echo.
"It's got to the stage where it's started to hamper my performances, especially when I come out for the start of the second half of games because that's when it stiffens up."
