Cherries captain signs on

Bournemouth captain Steven Fletcher has agreed a new one-year contract.

Bournemouth captain Steven Fletcher has agreed a new one-year contract to extend his stay at the club into a fifteenth season.

Despite an injury-ravaged campaign last time out, Fletcher played a crucial role in The Cherries preserving their League One status and was delighted to agree fresh terms.

The 33-year-old, who joined Bournemouth from Hartlepool for a fee of £30,000 in 1992, has acquired cult status on the South Coast and had no qualms about putting pen-to-paper.

"I've had 12-month contracts for the past four years and although I never expect any more, I'm always pleased to get one," Fletcher told the Bournemouth Daily Echo.

"My first option was always to stay here. I've been here 14 years so why would I want to leave if I was offered a new contract?"
