Spurs full-back focused on playing football on loan at Leeds

Leeds United's on-loan defender Adam Smith insists that he is unconcerned where his long-term future lies for now. The 20-year-old has made three appearances since joining the Championship outfit on loan last month from Tottenham. The England Under 21 international, included in the squad for next week's European Championship qualifier against Belgium, has not featured for Spurs yet, but impressed during loan spells at Wycombe, Torquay, Bournemouth and more recently MK Dons. However, despite his contract at White Hart Lane set to expire this summer, the highly-rated full-back says that playing regular first-team football is his sole target regarding his long-term future.

Happy

"I'm not really thinking about impressing Spurs or whoever at the moment because literally I just want to play some Championship football and whatever happens on the back of the happens," Smith told Sky Sports. "I'm just happy to have been given a chance to test myself in the second tier and I'll leave the future to sort itself out later. "I've played first-team football regularly now for a good year-and-a-half, so I can't think of anything worse than not playing every week. "I just want to carry on playing as much as I can and that will be a big factor in what happens this summer." The Whites currently lie just five points off the top six, with recently installed manager Neil Warnock set to take charge of his first game this weekend and Smith is keen to keep pace with the play-off pack. He added: "It is always nice to join a club looking upwards and pushing for promotion rather than nervously looking over their shoulders at the relegation picture. "Hopefully, we can get ourselves into the mix for the top six come the end of the season and make it a year to remember for Leeds."
