The Cherries could go up with victory against Carlisle on Saturday, coupled with other results going their way, which would see them compete in the second tier of English football for the first time in 23 years.
Howe has raised the club to a new level since taking over for his second stint, lifting them from the League One relegation zone to second place in the table.
And he believes the mind-set that his side has shown is vital to their success.
"Survival was the priority. I think we gained momentum, that's the key word," he told Sky Sports News.
"We won the first few games and we've got a really talented squad.
"The mentality of the players was to keep going, keep winning. We never took our foot of the pedal."
Bournemouth are currently on a club-record run of seven straight wins and Brett Pitman has scored in all of these games.
Howe has praised the way Pitman has adapted to the team since returning from Bristol City in December.
"Brett has always been a really good finisher and is a scorer of great goals," he added.
"But I think in recent months he's added a work ethic, more of a team ethic if you like and he has scored the goals as a product of that."
