Eddie Howe says Bournemouth's comfortable 3-1 win over Premier League Swansea is a real boost ahead of the new campaign.
Two goals from Marc Pugh and a penalty from Brett Pitman saw off Garry Monk's side as the Cherries warmed up for next Saturday's trip to Huddersfield in the perfect manner.
Even though the Swans, who only had a consolation strike from Jefferson Montero to show for their efforts, were without a number of key players, Howe admitted he was delighted with Friday evening's outcome.
"Once we got our confidence and scored the goals and were feeling good about ourselves, I thought some of our football around the box was as good as it has been for a while, well certainly during pre-season," he told BBC Radio Solent.
"That will give the lads a real boost for next week. With another week's training to go where we can refine certain points, we are quite happy with where we are.
"I think we wanted as strong a test as we could get, even if we got beaten, so it was from that perspective slightly disappointing, but it is what it is, you can only beat what's in front of you - you can only play against the team that's picked."
