Six weeks out for Caines

Cheltenham Town's Gavin Caines will miss the start of the season with a knee injury.

Cheltenham Town will be without Gavin Caines for six weeks after the central defender twisted his knee in training.

Caines is the latest player to join The Robins' extensive injury list, which currently includes strikers Paul Connor and Damian Spencer, and midfielders Sam Foley and Scott Brown.

The 23-year-old defender, who signed a new contract at Whaddon Road last month, will undergo surgery next week.

"It appears he has a slight tear to a lateral cartilage and he will be out of action for six weeks following the operation," physio Ian Weston told the club's official website.

"We are hopeful that the surgery can take place next week and it will then be a case of getting on the rehab for Gavin."
