Parkinson hails versatile Sheehan

Bradford boss Phil Parkinson has praised the versatility of new signing Alan Sheehan and has backed him to be a success.

The 27-year-old left-back, who has joined from Notts County, can also play in the centre of defence, something the manager thinks is crucial ahead of the new season. Speaking to the club's official website, Parkinson said: "I think Alan will be a good signing for us. He is a talented player. Left-back can be a difficult position to fill but Alan is a great addition for us. "One thing Alan has over James (Meredith) is that he has also played a lot of games at left-sided centre-back. That just shaded it for me. When you have a small squad, you need those versatile players in your ranks. "We want two left-backs in the squad but one of them really has to be able to play at centre-back as well. Alan fills that role. He added: "We are also looking to get that extra left-back in to support Alan. "We might be looking at another three players on top of that as well. We are short of players still, in particular in the wide areas. All of those deals might not be completed, however, until right up until a week or so before the start of the season." The arrival of Sheehan means that Meredith is now likely to leave the Bantams, with the defender out of contract at the end of the month.
