The directive may see The Spireites forced to sell major assets such as highly-rated young striker Luke Beckett, goalkeeper Mike Pollitt (pictured), or defender Ian Breckin.
Pollitt has already been linked with a move away from the Recreation Ground, and could return to his former club, newly-promoted Rotherham.
There would also undoubtedly be a number of suitors interested in securing the services of 24-year-old Beckett.
The former Barnsley trainee scored 16 goals in his inaugural season with Chesterfield after having previously topped the Chester scoring charts, hitting the net an impressive 19 times in spite of The Blues being relegated to the Conference.
The first player to depart Saltergate, however, is likely to be Rob Edwards, who is currently negotiating a move to Hull City.
