Fleming gunning for Lee's spot

New signing Greg Fleming insists he has not signed for Chesterfield to play second fiddle to Tommy Lee.

Popular goalkeeper Lee has collected the fans' Player of the Year awards for the last two seasons. Fleming, who was understudy to Spireites goalkeeping coach Mark Crossley at Oldham, joined the reigning League Two champions on a one-year deal last week and hopes he can push Lee for a place in the starting line-up. "I know the management team from my time at Oldham and Mark got in touch with me," said Fleming, 24. "I hope to be challenging Tommy. Competition brings out the best in footballers. I will support him and I hope he will support me." Fleming has also played for Galway United, his home-town club Dunfirmline and Gretna during their ill-fated season in the Scottish Premier League. He played in the 6-1 victory over Nottingham side Dunkirk last month and came on against Hull on Saturday for the final 12 minutes, when his first touch was a great save to keep out a shot from James Harper.
