Knill: We need Ryan's quality

Recovered midfielder Jimmy Ryan has been asked to get fit quickly to help Scunthorpe halt the club's League One slide.

Ryan, 23, had been sidelined for almost three months with a knee injury before stepping off the substitutes' bench in the last two matches and manager Alan Knill has been unable to ease him back into first-team action as gently as he would have liked. Knill told the club's official website: "The situation with Jimmy is very similar to the one we had with Michael O'Connor at the start of the season. We need his quality in the side so he'll have to get his fitness through games." Scunthorpe, hindered by injuries throughout the season, halted a miserable run of four straight defeats with a goalless draw at Exeter at the weekend. Knill added: "It's not ideal, but obviously the games are where he's going to get the bulk of his match fitness."
