Spireites' Navarro hopes dashed

Chesterfield's hopes of signing Swindon midfielder Alan Navarro have hit a stumbling block over wages, according to reports.

Swindon are keen to get Navarro, who has a year remaining on his contract, off their wage bill and the Spireites had enquired about a season-long loan for the 31-year-old. Blues boss Paul Cook has freed up funds by releasing eight players as he looks to rebuild his squad following an inconsistent season in League Two that saw Chesterfield miss out on the play-offs by two points, but any deal now seems unlikely for one of the Robins' biggest earners. Former Liverpool trainee Navarro joined Swindon from Brighton last summer but injury limited him to just 20 appearances during a difficult first year in Wiltshire.
